Navarro River

The Navarro River and its major tributaries Indian, Anderson and Rancheria Creek once ran cold and deep, providing ideal habitat for steelhead and coho salmon. Today the mainstem Navarro River runs dry or nearly so (at right) and a State Water Resources Control Board study in response to a Sierra Club public trust lawsuit found over 130 illegal impoundments in the Navarro River basin. No fines were ever issued nor any impoundments required to be removed (read more). Take a slide tour to see photos of the Navarro River in its heyday and also in its current beleaguered condition or read more about how water supply is limiting salmon and steelhead production at the KRIS Navarro website.
